Guinean-born Catholic prelate calls for defense of traditional values. He’s not going to please the wokists, as his speech at the 2018 Brussels “God or Nothing” Conference suggests.

In an impassioned speech, the Catholic prelate spoke out on what he sees as a profound crisis of values in Western societies, warning of the consequences of abandoning traditional religious principles and the natural conception of the family.

An unprecedented crisis of civilization

According to Robert Sarah, for over a century Europe has been going through “an unprecedented crisis of civilization”, which is deepening and worsening by “demolishing all reference to God”. He asserts that human and diplomatic means alone are powerless to establish peace between peoples without a spiritual dimension.

Criticism of the “new rights

The speaker denounces what he calls “false rights” promoted by Western powers, aimed in his view at creating “a sexually undifferentiated society”. He is particularly concerned about rights relating to abortion, euthanasia and the legal recognition of homosexual unions, which he sees as a threat to the traditional conception of marriage and the family.

The inseparability of the ends of marriage

Referring to the teachings of the Catholic Church, notably Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae, the speaker insists on the “indissoluble link that God willed” between the two meanings of the conjugal act: “union and procreation”. He maintains that the very structure of marriage, as a union between a man and a woman, is oriented towards these two ends.

A call to resistance

In the face of what he sees as attacks on natural morality, Robert Sarah urges Catholics to “stand together and refuse to contribute to the destruction of natural morality”. He asserts that the Church should “discover its vocation to be the only body capable of saving human sexuality and the natural institution of marriage and the family”.

The speech concludes with a reference to the book “Dieu ou rien” (“God or nothing”). which is said to have received praise from Popes Benedict XVI and Francis.
